Tea Cultivation and Ecology

Before we place an order, we look into a growers' use of agricultural chemicals. Each batch of tea is checked several times for chemical residues, and we only buy tea with extremely low residues. In addition, we encourage and support producers' efforts to do without chemical pesticides and fertilisers altogether.

The practice of "sustainable development," however, must not stop at limiting the use of chemicals. To halt the growing soil erosion problem on Darjeeling's steep mountain slopes, more trees need to be planted. With this in mind, we have initiated and financed a reforestation project entitled "Save the Environment & Regenerate Vital Employment." In 1996, the WWF agreed to take over the management of our project, affirming our efforts with its international prestige.

The Label at the Back of our Packages
